Window Sashes
For your New or Historic Home
What is a window sash?
A window sash is a moveable frame which holds either one or multiple panes of glass. Each pane of glass is separated by milled pieces of wood, joined at the ends, called muntins or mullions. This frame then fits inside a window, either as a sliding sash which is often called double or triple hung, or as a casement or awning installation.
There are many ways to date a window sash, from handblown to modern glass, the width and profile of the muntins, and the sash thickness.
